The Beginning of Scatter Joyfulness

Scatter Joyfulness began in the most unexpected way.

In 2024, I started creating whimsical Valentine images as daily gifts for my husband. There was no shop, business plan, product line, or thought that anyone else would ever see them.

I simply wanted to give him something cheerful, loving, and from my heart without making life more complicated or expensive.

Then one image became two.

Two became several.

Before long, I had a growing collection and absolutely no idea where it was headed.

The Valentine Idea That Started It All

I’ve always been someone who notices people, expressions, words, and the funny details hiding inside ordinary days.

Creating those Valentine images gave all that noticing somewhere new to land.

A shared memory might become an image.

A familiar phrase could turn into a character.

Something that made us laugh might find its way into the next day’s Valentine.

I wasn’t trying to build anything. I was enjoying the surprise of seeing what would appear next.

That part hasn’t changed.

When Play Became Something More

As the collection grew, I started wondering whether these images might encourage people beyond our home.

Could one help someone say, “I thought of you”?

Could another carry a thank-you, a birthday wish, a prayer, or a smile into someone else’s day?

The idea began to feel larger than the Valentines themselves.

Not large in a noisy, grand-announcement way.

Larger in reach.

What started between my husband and me was beginning to look like a way to scatter small seeds of encouragement wherever they might be welcomed.

That was the beginning of Scatter Joyfulness.

Finding the Greeting Card Form

The finished format took time to discover.

I didn’t want to create another traditional folded card that might be read once and placed in a drawer, beautiful as those cards often are. I wanted the artwork, the handwritten message, and part of the card itself to have more lingerability.

There’s an even more delightfully unexpected backstory to how the finished format came together. I’ll share that story another time, but it was a bit like an unintentional beta program, and yes, coffee and cookies were involved.

Every Scatter Joyfulness Greetings™ card is created as a flat 5x7 micro art greeting card gift and hand-finished by me, one at a time, in the order received. The lined back provides space for your handwritten message, while the front becomes a small 5x5 self-standing piece of art that may also be framed if desired. The detachable bookmark offers one more way for part of the card to be enjoyed and kept.

That’s the heart behind:

Three joyful uses in one.

Each card design is limited to only twelve pieces, and I don’t create back stock.

The exact story behind that decision now has its own Studio Journal home in Why 12 Limited Editions?

A Name That Already Knew the Mission

The words Scatter Joyfulness fit what had been growing in my heart before I fully understood what the finished cards would become.

To scatter something is to release it without controlling exactly where it lands.

A card may be given to one person and noticed by several more.

It may sit on a desk, stand on a shelf, find its way into a frame, or peek from a book as a bookmark.

It may start a conversation long after the envelope has been opened.

That’s the kind of quiet movement I hope Scatter Joyfulness becomes.

Not simply something purchased and received, but encouragement that continues traveling in ways I may never see.

Faith Was Never an Added Section

My faith is part of who I am, so it naturally became part of Scatter Joyfulness too.

Not every card includes Scripture.

Some are faith-forward.

Others are completely playful and all the way whimsical.

There are flowers, animals, curious phrases, birthdays, thank-yous, friendships, ordinary observations, and characters with eyelashes that make me giggle.

The invitation toward God’s love is quiet on purpose.

My hope is that people feel welcome here, wherever they are in their own story, and perhaps find themselves encouraged to pause, notice, smile, or wander a bit further.

The Studio Journal Found Its Place Too

I’ve always loved words and conversation, so eventually the images needed somewhere for their stories to live.

The Studio Journal is that place.

Here I share the stories behind the designs, curious phrases I can’t quite leave alone, flower discoveries, faith reflections, joyful field trips, and card-message help for times when the right words feel shy.

The What to Write collection gives visitors practical help for birthdays, friendship, encouragement, thank-yous, difficult days, celebrations, and many other moments when they care deeply but aren’t sure what to write.

Cards for harder topics and complicated life moments aren’t always easy to find, especially in local shops. I find myself quietly braving my way into that space, hoping what I create will be helpful to someone who needs it.

And on the flip side, you’ll also find plenty of pure silliness.

What began as a visual Valentine idea slowly grew into both a greeting card collection and a library of words.

I didn’t foresee either one.

Bunny Was Here From the Beginning

Bunny, also known around here as Bunners, Bun-Bun, and Sweetie Pie, was part of the studio rhythm before there was officially a studio.

My mornings often begin early with prayer, a homemade latte, and Bunny nearby while I write, notice, imagine, and follow whichever creative trail has caught my attention.

She’s my fluffy dachshund and official Chief Cuddle Officer.

She doesn’t print, package, or approve shipping labels, although chicken might improve her willingness to negotiate.

She keeps me company through nearly every part of the process, and what’s not to love about that?

I Still Don’t Know What Comes Next

When I look back at those first Valentine images, I can see the beginning more clearly than I could while I was living it.

Scatter Joyfulness didn’t arrive through a grand plan.

It grew through noticing, play, love, curiosity, faith, and one idea following another.

I still rarely know what will inspire the next card or Studio Journal story.

A common phrase may make me wonder where it came from.

Someone I meet may say something I carry home with me.

A funny creature may appear with far more personality than expected.

An ordinary moment may quietly say, “Pay attention.”

And I do.

From Our Home Into the World

What began as daily Valentine gifts for my husband has now traveled farther than I imagined.

Cards have been mailed, displayed, framed, bookmarked, shared, and noticed by people I may never meet.

Some have prompted conversations.

Many have brought unexpected smiles.

And some have stayed visible long enough to keep doing their cheerful work in the room.

That lingerability delights me.

I’m still amazed that something created privately and playfully in 2024 became Scatter Joyfulness Greetings™.

More than all of this, I’m grateful you found your way here while the story is still being written.

Yours in scattering joyfulness,
Joy
& Bunny
