A Little Joy to Carry With You

A quiet offering—carried on the air, where love moves freely, beauty surrounds, and something within begins to lift.

This small poem carries the heart behind Scatter Joyfulness.

Scatter Joyfulness

~ Joy Arnold

In every whisper of the wind, in every bird’s sweet song,
Find the Joy that’s scattered wide, where all hearts belong.

With every dawn let love arise, and touch the skies above,
Scattering joyfulness with grace, in every act of love.

Let nature’s splendor guide the way in ever step you trod,
Embrace the warmth, share the light and spread the love of God.

For every day’s a canvas new, where joy can craft her part,
In every way, with everyone, let love fill every heart.

So, send a card, a note, a smile, let kindness be your guide,
And SCATTER JOYFULNESS around, with God’s love at your side.

Personally, I find moments of quiet reflection and inspiration through these resources. They are part of my own daily rhythm, and I hope they lovingly bring a little extra peace to your day.

The Beginning - Scatter Joyfulness

Scatter Joyfulness began in the most unexpected way.

In 2024, I started creating whimsical Valentine images for my husband—just for the joy of it. No plan, no business idea… just something cheerful, loving, and a little silly.

But something unexpected happened.

One image became two.
Two became several.
And before long, a small collection had formed.

Many of the designs were inspired by our everyday life—aviation, coffee shops, and our adored dachshund, Bunny.

What began as simple play became a small way to share a little kindness and delight beyond our home.

My days often begin with a morning latte, candles flickering, and Bunny in my lap as the sun rises. It’s my favorite time… along with just about every other part of the day.

I’ve always loved to talk, and this Studio Journal feels like a sweet place to do that—and maybe make a few new friends along the way.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Yours in scattering joyfulness,
Joy (& Bunny)

Bunny the Dachshund - Chief Cuddle Officer

Meet Bunny, the dachshund behind Scatter Joyfulness Greetings — our Chief Cuddle Officer and expert in belly-up consultations.

Some businesses have board meetings.

At Scatter Joyfulness Greetings, we have belly-up consultations with Bunny.

Cream long-haired dachshund puppy lying upside down showing her belly on her first day home

Bunny’s first day home - already convinced upside-down is the correct way to live.

Bunny is our cream long-haired dachshund and the official Chief Cuddle Officer.

True to her breed (shh, don’t tell her we know—and yes, even the American Kennel Club agrees), she comes with the full dachshund package — clever, stubborn, protective, playful, and very convinced she runs the household.

If you’ve ever known a dachshund, you already know this to be true.

Bunners is number three in our family and somehow the cuddliest of them all.

Before Bunny there were two other long-haired girls who trained us well.

The first was Sage, a fourteen-pound sable “miniature” who believed toilet paper was a snack and trash cans were treasure chests. She taught us valuable life skills like hiding garbage cans, pushing in chairs, and keeping the toilet paper safely on the counter.

Vintage black-and-white photo of Sage, a long-haired dachshund resting her paws on a dog training book, an early dachshund inspiration behind Scatter Joyfulness Greetings.

A little glimpse into Sage’s story - paws first, always curious.

Then came Oona — our tiny seven-pound black-and-tan princess who pranced when she walked and adored bows and the doggy spa.

Black and tan dachshund holding a stick in its mouth while standing on a wooden floor, playful and curious expression

A prancie little dachshund princess proudly carrying her ‘treasure’ - equal parts mischief and joy in one tiny moment.

Oona had a mysterious fascination with electrical cords. One Christmas evening the tree lights quietly went dark while we were sitting right there in the room.

Mystery solved, she had chewed the cord. Remind you of any beloved Christmas movie?

As Oona grew older and began slowing down, we knew one thing for certain:

Our house was never meant to be dachshund-free.

So along came Bunny.

We thought we were getting another “miniature.”

Instead we got our biggest girl yet — a seventeen-pound cream beauty with a soft heart and a pretty pastel pink belly.

Why her name is Bunny

Her name started as a joke. I actually did giggle.

At the time my drive to work passed through a neighborhood full of wild rabbits. One morning I watched one hopping ahead and suddenly thought how funny it would be for a dachshund — a dog bred to hunt fierce badgers — to have the sweetest, fluffiest name imaginable.

Bunny.

A tiny oxymoron.

It made me laugh the whole drive.

My husband loved it too, and the name stayed.

The upside-down girl

Bunny has a special talent too.

She is rarely right-side up.

Instead she rolls onto her back to show what we call her pink bunny belly, wagging her tail like she’s just won a prize.

If attention is available, Bunny will take it.

If attention is not currently available, Bunny will simply roll over and wait with anticipation and a waggie tail.

Bunny’s favorite snacks

Bunny is also something of a food connoisseur.

Her favorite snack in the world is cold cherry tomatoes.

But she doesn’t eat them right away.

First she tosses them into the air.
Then she chases them across the floor.
Eventually she eats them.

Around here they are known as toy-matos.

In late summer our apple tree occasionally drops fruit into Bunny’s courtyard. Early in the season while they’re green, they’re toys. Then as they ripen and are still toys, they become happles, (Happy Apples) which she proudly carries inside and sometimes tries to share by wooing us to the floor and placing near our mouths. Kindness in action.

Another favorite?

Chicken.

Known whimsically as chick-yums.

Sunbeam collector

Bunny loves sunshine more than anyone in this house.

She follows warm patches of light across the floor like a tiny solar collector and happily tans outside on the hottest days. That may be where her doggie smile shines the brightest.

She’s what we affectionately call a hot dog. (I know, that’s not all that clever if you’re a dachshund lover :-p)

Protector of the household

Despite her sweetness, Bunny takes her job seriously.

Trash trucks.
Delivery drivers.
Suspicious neighborhood sounds.

All are greeted with her official dachshund warning bark.

And do you know what?

They always leave.

So clearly she’s doing excellent work. ThanX Bunners.

The real boss

Bunny has several little voices she uses to communicate with us. My favorite is her nighttime whisper — so soft you can barely hear it.

When deciding whose lap to join, she studies us carefully with her dachshund side-eye before making her selection. She looks at me, then dad, then me…

And although she insists she never begs…

she does occasionally position herself very nearby while pretending to be asleep.

Bunny joined our home while Oona (known to Bunny as Granny-Sister) was still with us, and that little burst of puppy energy gave our older girl almost three more happy years.

For that alone, she’ll always hold a special place in our hearts.

But mostly Bunny reminds us that joy is usually very simple.

Sometimes it looks like a wagging tail.

Sometimes it looks like a pink belly.

And sometimes it looks like a dachshund flipping a toy-mato across the floor.

Hugs & Smiles,
Joy & Bunny

Why 12 Limited Editions?

Why are Scatter Joyfulness greetings created as limited editions of twelve? This story shares the inspiration behind the number and how a home filled with meaningful art helped shape the beginning of the journey.

A Home That Feels Like a Gallery

I have dear friends whose home feels like walking through a beautiful gallery.

Not the kind of gallery with velvet ropes and quiet footsteps…but the kind filled with warmth, stories, and history.

Their walls are covered with art.

Pottery. Paintings. Handcrafted coffee tables. Carvings.

Some pieces were exquisitely designed and created by family members. Others were discovered over the years from local artists.

One of my favorite pieces is a hand-carved nativity scene, lovingly made by the dad of the family.

Each piece has a story.

And my friends treasure those stories.

The mom and matriarch of the family keeps a notebook describing where the art came from and who created it.

Sometimes they find pieces in unexpected places — even tucked quietly into local thrift shops.

Every discovery feels like rescuing a story, and I love hearing about them.

Art with a Signature

One of the things I admire most is that they intentionally look for signed work by local artists.

Something about that signature makes the art feel more personal.

Someone made this.

Someone imagined it.

Someone took the time to create something beautiful for the world.

A New Kind of Paintbrush

As Scatter Joyfulness begins its own little journey, I find myself stepping into a new kind of creative space.

My paintbrush is not made of bristles.

It is made of words.

Words that guide the creation of images.

Images that become greetings.

Greetings that may travel out into the world and land in someone’s hands.

Or perhaps someday…

on a wall, a desk, a shelf, or a mantel.

Even more importantly — landing in hearts and spirits.

Why Twelve?

Because art feels different when it is limited.

Knowing something was created in a small number makes it feel a little more special.

A little more personal.

So each Scatter Joyfulness greeting is created as a limited edition of twelve.

Twelve small pieces of art.

Twelve opportunities to brighten someone’s day.

Twelve moments of joy traveling outward.

And So It Begins

The website for Scatter Joyfulness Greetings opened today on March 12 at 12:12.

I chose this moment intentionally — the 12th day of the month at 12:12 — as a small nod to the twelve handcrafted editions that begin the life of every greeting.

It feels like a fitting beginning for this little adventure.

Truthfully, I don’t know where this journey will go.

But I do know this:

It will be an honor when a piece of Scatter Joyfulness finds its way into someone’s world.

Maybe on a wall.

Maybe on a bookshelf.

Maybe the tasseled bookmark delightfully peeking out of a good book.

Maybe framed as a quiet reminder of a thoughtful moment.

But most of all — in the hearts of the giver and the receiver.

A small movement.

One greeting at a time.

Scattering joyfulness wherever it may land.

If we don’t know each other already, perhaps our paths will cross at just the right time… and if it happens to fall anywhere around the 12th — month, date, or time — what a joy it will be if we notice it together.

Scatter Joyfulness Stories

Have you experienced a moment of unexpected kindness or joy?

Maybe a greeting you gave brightened someone’s day…
or someone else’s kindness brightened yours.

I would love to hear your story.

Some sharings may be included in the Studio Journal so others can be encouraged too.

Side Note

3/15/2026

When I chose March 12th at 12:12pm as the official launch moment for Scatter Joyfulness Greetings, it was simply because each design was limited to 12.

Today I learned something that made me laugh out loud.

Louis Prang - the printer often called the father of the American Christmas card - was born on March 12th. One of lifes true whimsy moments. Don’t you love it?

I had absolutely no idea when I picked this date (actually my husband chose the date, I was just going to go with the time of 12:12pm)

Sometimes tiny details like this feel like cheerful winks from above.

Little reminders that joy is always waiting to be scattered.

What to Write in a Card When You Want to Brighten Someone’s Day

Sometimes a small moment lingers just long enough to matter. Here are simple, thoughtful ways to turn that feeling into words and brighten someone’s day.

Sometimes someone comes to mind out of nowhere. Not because of a date or a reason… just an awareness. Almost like a little nudge.

I’ll pause for a second and wonder if I should reach out—or just let the moment pass.

Most of the time, it’s easy to move on. Life is full, days are busy, and those small thoughts can slip by without much notice.

But every now and then… one lingers.

It stays just long enough to feel like it matters.

It doesn’t have to be a special occasion. Nothing is wrong. Nothing big has happened.

Just a simple thought. I hope they’re doing okay.

And maybe that’s enough of a reason.

If you’ve ever had a moment like that and didn’t quite know what to say, you’re not alone.

The good news is, you/we don’t need perfect words to brighten someone’s day. A few sincere ones, shared at the right moment, can mean so much.

When a small moment lingers like that…
it’s usually worth answering.

Here are a few simple ways to put that feeling into words.

Simple Messages

  • Just thinking of you today and hoping something good finds its way to you.

  • You crossed my mind, and it made me smile.

  • Sending a little hello your way—no reason needed.

Warm & Personal

  • I don’t know what your day looks like today, but I wanted you to know you were on my heart.

  • Sometimes a name comes to mind for a reason—I’m glad yours did.

  • Just a small note to remind you that you matter more than you probably realize.

When You Want It to Feel More Meaningful

  • Even the smallest moments of connection can mean more than we expect—this is one of them.

  • This isn’t for a special occasion… just a small reminder that you’re appreciated.

  • A little note to say you’re part of someone’s thoughts today—mine.

Short & Gentle

  • Thinking of you today.

  • A little hello.

  • You matter.

I’ve found these are often the messages I almost don’t send…and they end up meaning the most

A Little Extra Shine In Their Day

  • Pair your note with a favorite treat

  • Tuck it into a book or leave it somewhere unexpected

And maybe:

Send it to someone who isn’t expecting it at all.

Your neighbor, a coworker, your mail carrier, a customer, the skies the limit.

Kindness knows no restrictions.

What to Write in a Card When You Haven’t Talked in a While

Reaching out after time has passed can feel hard—but a few simple words can open the door again and gently reconnect what still matters.

If you haven’t talked in a while, a simple message that acknowledges the time, expresses care, and gently reconnects is more than enough to begin again.

Sometimes time passes more quietly than we expect.

Reaching out can feel uncertain—but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

A few simple words can open the door again.

When Time Has Passed, but Care Hasn’t

You don’t need to explain everything.

You can simply begin.

  • It’s been a while, but you’ve been on my mind lately.

  • I realized it’s been too long since we last talked, and I wanted to reach out.

  • No big reason—just thinking of you today.

Simple Ways to Reach Out Again

If you’re not sure where to start, keep it light and genuine.

  • Hi… I just wanted to say hello and see how you’ve been.

  • This might be out of the blue, but I was thinking of you and wanted to reach out.

  • It’s been a while, but I hope you’re doing well.

If You’re Not Sure Where You Stand

You can still lead with kindness.

  • I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to reach out and say I’m thinking of you.

  • No expectations—just sending a hello your way.

  • If you ever feel like reconnecting, I’d love that.

When You Want to Keep It Light

Not every message needs to be deep.

  • I saw something today that reminded me of you and made me smile.

  • Just a quick hello—hope your days have been good lately.

  • No reason at all… just you came to mind.

When You Miss Them More Than You Expected

If your heart feels it, you can say that too.

  • I’ve missed our conversations more than I realized.

  • You crossed my mind today, and it made me miss you.

  • I was remembering something that made me smile—and think of you.

Gentle Faith-Inspired Words

If faith is part of your relationship, include it naturally.

  • You’ve been on my heart lately, and I’ve been praying for you.

  • Just a small note to say you’re thought of and cared for.

  • I hope you’re feeling surrounded by peace in this season.

It’s Okay to Begin Again

Sometimes the hardest part is the first word.

Connection doesn’t require perfection—it just needs a beginning.

Even a short note can remind someone they matter.

A Few Ways You Could Use This

Send this when:

  • someone has quietly been on your mind

  • time has passed and you don’t want it to pass any longer

  • you want to reconnect without pressure

A simple pairing idea:

  • a handwritten card with a favorite tea, coffee, or small treat

  • something familiar that feels like you remembered them

A gentle idea for your own day:

  • reach out to one person you’ve been thinking about

  • no explanation needed—just a kind hello

Sometimes it’s not about finding the perfect words.

It’s about letting someone know they were worth remembering.

No One Needs Another Coffee Cup… (But Here We Are)

Simple things feel meaningful because they become part of our daily lives—holding memories, routines, and small moments that quietly stay with us.

Todays little moment happened in the coffee mug aisle of my local thrift shop.

You know the one.

LOTS of cups… some chipped, some beautiful, some you can’t quite figure out why they were ever made—but still, you look.

And then you see one.

And another… and another.

Suddenly you’re holding a cup like it might have chosen you.

That’s exactly where I was.

And somehow, it felt like more than just a cup.

I’ve had this silly idea in my head—to treat myself to a new cup at the start of each month… just for fun.

Wanna join me?

Anyway…

Standing next to me was a woman doing the exact same thing.

Mug shopping.

So naturally, I said it—with a smile (I say it often in that aisle):

“No one needs another coffee cup…”

She laughed immediately. Everyone always does. That’s part of the joy of that section of the shop—the quiet connection with people in the same moment.

“You’re right… but…”

And that “but” is where all the fun begins.

We started talking—about cups, about life—and somehow discovered we had both spent years in the same industry. She had just given her notice last week and was stepping into something new and exciting.

There’s a certain kind of joy in that moment.

A little bit of freedom.

A little bit of wonder.

And she was clearly ready for both.

We ended up choosing between the same two cups.

Hers had violets.

Mine—a deep red and green beauty that felt like it belonged in a slightly more elegant setting.

To be honest, I really wanted both.

Thankfully, the shared moment won out—and I remembered…

“No one needs another coffee cup.”

Before we walked away, I asked her name.

“Lucy,” she said.

So of course I told her:

“Well now… this is officially my Lucy cup.”

Because how could it not be?

In celebration of the new month, I’ll be sipping my next latte with the sweet memory of Lucy.

Would you agree?

Coffee seems to taste better when it comes with a story.

It’s made me realize that what we hold in our hands often holds more than we expect.

So…

Why do simple things feel meaningful?

It’s my belief that simple things feel meaningful because they become part of our everyday lives. Over time, they gather memories, routines, and quiet moments—until they begin to hold a story of their own.

…it turns out I’m not alone in this way of thinking.

I discovered there’s even an International Coffee Cup Museum in Finland displaying thousands of cups from around the world—a quiet reminder that even the simplest things can carry stories worth keeping.

Not everyone is as outgoing as I am. If you ever want ideas for what to say, but more in a card than in person, you might enjoy these words:

What to Write in a Get Well Card When Someone Is Seriously Ill

Sometimes the words feel harder when the situation feels heavier.

When someone you care about is seriously ill, you want to say something that truly matters… but that can make it harder to know what to write.

If that’s where you are, you’re not alone.

You don’t need perfect words here. Just something gentle, honest, and full of care.

What to Say When Someone Is Seriously Ill

When someone is going through something serious, simple and sincere words often mean the most.

You don’t have to explain everything or make it better—just being present in your words is enough.

Here are a few ideas you can use or build from:

  • I’m holding you close in my thoughts and hoping you feel surrounded by care.

  • You’ve been on my heart—I’m here for you in any way you need.

  • Sending you strength, gentle moments, and so much love.

  • I care about you deeply and I’m thinking of you every day.

  • You don’t have to go through this alone.

What to Avoid Saying in a Get Well Card

When something is serious, it can help to keep your message simple and avoid anything that might feel overwhelming.

You don’t need to:

  • explain why things happen

  • try to fix the situation

  • or find the “perfect” words

What matters most is that your message feels kind, steady, and genuine.

Longer Get Well Messages for Serious Illness

If you feel led to write a little more, a longer message can be meaningful too:

  • I wish I could take this away for you. Since I can’t, please know I’m here, thinking of you, and holding you in my heart.

  • You mean so much to me, and I’m hoping each day brings even a small moment of light and comfort.

  • I’m walking beside you in spirit—sending strength, peace, and so much love your way.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to say everything.

You don’t have to say it perfectly.

A few sincere words—written with care—can mean more than you realize.

Heart Before the Horse

Heart Before the Horse

This morning, before anything else, a phrase was waiting for me.

Not fully formed… just quietly there.

Cart before the horse.

You’ve probably heard it before. It’s been around for centuries—wow, that’s a really long time. It was used to describe getting things out of order. I was curious where it came from, so I went looking. One of the earliest references traces back to Arcadia (1590) by Philip Sidney—a reminder that even then, people noticed how easy it was to move ahead without what should lead first.

If, like me, you enjoy little bits of history, you can explore that origin a little further here:

But instead of staying there… I played with it.

As I often do.

And what came next felt both whimsical and deeply personal:

Heart before the horse.

I smiled at the rhyme—heart and cart. I do love a good rhyme.

But then something shifted.

Because for me, this wasn’t just wordplay.

It was truth.

---

I found myself right here… in this little space I’ve been creating—this cyber boutique you’ve stepped into.

Scatter Joyfulness isn’t something I “work on.”

It’s something I live in.

It’s in the early mornings.

It’s in the quiet thoughts.

It’s in the small moments that feel like they’re overflowing.

And today, my cup truly felt full.

---

Because if I’m honest…

This was never meant to be about filling a cart.

Not products.

Not selling.

Not even building something to grow into.

Yes… there are greetings here.

Yes… there is art you can hold.

But that’s not the center.

The center is the heart.

---

A heart that notices.

A heart that pauses.

A heart that eases toward something more.

A heart that wants to share.

---

So maybe the phrase had it right all along…

Just not in the way I first thought.

Maybe it’s not about avoiding the cart.

Maybe it’s about placing it where it belongs.

Behind what leads.

Heart first.

And then… everything else can follow in its rightful place.

---

If you’ve landed here, I hope you feel that.

I hope you feel at home.

I hope this space gives you a small moment to pause, breathe, and remember what matters most.

---

Maybe you’re here from your favorite chair at home…

or tucked into bed late at night.

Maybe you’re sitting in your favorite coffee shop,

taking a break on a business trip,

a quiet break from college studies,

or even just a quiet moment as a passenger in a car

(ahhh… someone else is doing the driving).

Wherever you are,

I hope you feel a little held here.

A quiet kind of hug.

A small space to pause and reflect.

---

And if you don’t place a card in your cart…

that’s okay.

You’re always welcome here.

To pause.

To linger.

To feel something gentle and good.

This little space is here for you—

a place to return to, again and again.

A my heart-felt, quiet way of scattering joyfulness.

---

And if someone comes to mind while you’re here…how beautiful is that.

you can explore the greetings here:

A little reminder…

The things we hold dearly…

are the places our hearts will gently follow. ~ Matthew 6:21
