When Buttermilk Donuts Went to the Movies
Last Saturday, my granddaughter and I stopped for two buttermilk donuts at my favorite local bakery. We were heading to a 9 a.m. movie (yes, that’s right), and breakfast was highly anticipated.
Upon walking in, as is always true, the aroma gave us bigger eyes than necessary. We were disciplined, but it wasn’t easy.
Warm sugar in the air. Butter. Vanilla. Fresh coffee somewhere nearby. That sweet, impossible-to-ignore aroma that seems to reach you before you’ve even decided what you’re ordering.
And then there were the buttermilk donuts.
I’d had one a week earlier and, oh my goodness...
Not perfectly round. Not tidy.
Hefty cake donuts, more oval than circular, almost like a slightly stretched figure eight, with all those bumpy, craggy places where the glaze settles into every nook and cranny.
We told them exactly where those donuts were headed.
Everyone smiled.
You know...a 9 a.m.-er is awesome because you’re maybe one or two of a dozen people.
Anyway, who knew popcorn for breakfast had such great competition?
What a way to start a Saturday.
Donuts. Popcorn. And the big screen.
You should try it sometime.
And apparently those buttermilk donuts weren’t finished with me yet.
A few days later, one of them became the inspiration for the Dream Donut | Buttermilk Donut Greeting Card.
I’m going to post this fun-ness now, and then I’m off to the bakery to deliver their fun card and (wait for it...) get another donut.
Seems they are scattering joyfulness my way quite nicely.
