Why Do Bunnies Feel So Joyful?

And How They Became a Symbol of Spring

Being that it’s spring—and my Chief Cuddle Officer, Bunny, is never far from my side—I have a special place in my heart for these whimsical little fluff balls.

(You’ll sometimes hear them called rabbits—but to me, they’ll always feel like bunnies.)

Soft and fluffy.

Playful and peaceful.

Maybe it’s the way they seem to freeze
and then look right at us.

Or the way they hop instead of hurry.

A Little Story Behind Their Softness

As winter fades, rabbits are often among the first animals to reappear—quietly active, present, and full of life.

Because of this, many early traditions began to associate them with renewal, new beginnings, and the return of warmth.

Over time, observations like these shaped what we now recognize as the Easter bunny—a soft symbol of life returning after a quiet season.

Being a “bunny” owner (ok, that’s just my COO’s name but still - I had to look into historical summaries from sources like the Smithsonian Institution and early European folklore traditions. Why not?

Places like the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC continue to care for and study animals like these—quiet reminders of how much there is to learn from the natural world.

Did you know…

A group of bunnies is called a “fluffle.”

They can leap surprisingly high and far in a single bound…

(and so can my girl, right off the sofa).

When they’re especially happy, they do something called a “binky”—a little jump with a twist in mid-air.

Have you ever seen one do this? It’s adorable.

Also, their ears help regulate body temperature, acting as a natural cooling system.

I believe that there’s something about spring that brings

A little extra sparkle.

A little more color.

A little more laughter.

And yes…

a little more hoppy joy.

If a bunny made you think of someone…

you might enjoy sending a little moment like this.

Because some days just call for something cheerful.

Something unexpected.

Something that makes someone smile the moment they see it.

And honestly…

that might be the best kind of day to share.
