A Small Birthday Gift Can Start With One Thing They Love

Need a gift that feels personal without becoming complicated?

One Little Thing at a Farm Stand Started the Whole Idea

I was at my local farm stand and, as I was checking out, I noticed a dozen or so colorful, multi-flavored honey sticks.

I thought, hmmm…those would be fun to give someone.

And then I drove off without them.

Except they apparently had no intention of leaving my creative thoughts alone.

I ran a couple of errands and then it hit me.

I have a friend who loves tea and honey.

Their birthday is coming up.

I could make a honey-bee birthday card and turn those honey sticks into the fun little gift that goes with it.

Seeee…now I had a plan.

So I did a perfectly legal U-turn at the next signal light, went back and made the colorful (tasteful) purchase.

Pun absolutely intended.

Then the Gift Started Growing

Next stop: find something vase-ish for the sweet little honey-stick bouquet.

The card was fun to create. They always are.

“Happy Birthday Honey” on the front.

A personal message on the back.

Then came colorful tissue paper.

A colorful gift bag.

One very colorful bow.

I love bows.

And off it goes.

Nothing huge or elaborate.

Just one small idea that kept building on itself.

It’s kind of a thing with me.

A Small Gift Can Feel Really Personal

That’s the part I keep coming back to.

You don’t always need THE gift.

Sometimes you just need one clue about THE person.

Tea and honey.

Coffee.

Gardening.

Books.

Dogs.

A favorite color.

Something funny the two of you always talk about.

That little detail can be enough to help you choose the card and then add one small thing that makes the whole gift feel more personal.

And honestly, that can be a lot more fun than trying to come up with something grand.
