What to Write in a Card When You Haven’t Talked in a While

Reaching out after time has passed can feel hard—but a few simple words can open the door again and gently reconnect what still matters.

If you haven’t talked in a while, a simple message that acknowledges the time, expresses care, and gently reconnects is more than enough to begin again.

Sometimes time passes more quietly than we expect.

Reaching out can feel uncertain—but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

A few simple words can open the door again.

When Time Has Passed, but Care Hasn’t

You don’t need to explain everything.

You can simply begin.

  • It’s been a while, but you’ve been on my mind lately.

  • I realized it’s been too long since we last talked, and I wanted to reach out.

  • No big reason—just thinking of you today.

Simple Ways to Reach Out Again

If you’re not sure where to start, keep it light and genuine.

  • Hi… I just wanted to say hello and see how you’ve been.

  • This might be out of the blue, but I was thinking of you and wanted to reach out.

  • It’s been a while, but I hope you’re doing well.

If You’re Not Sure Where You Stand

You can still lead with kindness.

  • I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to reach out and say I’m thinking of you.

  • No expectations—just sending a hello your way.

  • If you ever feel like reconnecting, I’d love that.

When You Want to Keep It Light

Not every message needs to be deep.

  • I saw something today that reminded me of you and made me smile.

  • Just a quick hello—hope your days have been good lately.

  • No reason at all… just you came to mind.

When You Miss Them More Than You Expected

If your heart feels it, you can say that too.

  • I’ve missed our conversations more than I realized.

  • You crossed my mind today, and it made me miss you.

  • I was remembering something that made me smile—and think of you.

Gentle Faith-Inspired Words

If faith is part of your relationship, include it naturally.

  • You’ve been on my heart lately, and I’ve been praying for you.

  • Just a small note to say you’re thought of and cared for.

  • I hope you’re feeling surrounded by peace in this season.

It’s Okay to Begin Again

Sometimes the hardest part is the first word.

Connection doesn’t require perfection—it just needs a beginning.

Even a short note can remind someone they matter.

A Few Ways You Could Use This

Send this when:

  • someone has quietly been on your mind

  • time has passed and you don’t want it to pass any longer

  • you want to reconnect without pressure

A simple pairing idea:

  • a handwritten card with a favorite tea, coffee, or small treat

  • something familiar that feels like you remembered them

A gentle idea for your own day:

  • reach out to one person you’ve been thinking about

  • no explanation needed—just a kind hello

Sometimes it’s not about finding the perfect words.

It’s about letting someone know they were worth remembering.

What to Write in a Get Well Card When Someone Is Seriously Ill

Sometimes the words feel harder when the situation feels heavier.

When someone you care about is seriously ill, you want to say something that truly matters… but that can make it harder to know what to write.

If that’s where you are, you’re not alone.

You don’t need perfect words here. Just something gentle, honest, and full of care.

What to Say When Someone Is Seriously Ill

When someone is going through something serious, simple and sincere words often mean the most.

You don’t have to explain everything or make it better—just being present in your words is enough.

Here are a few ideas you can use or build from:

  • I’m holding you close in my thoughts and hoping you feel surrounded by care.

  • You’ve been on my heart—I’m here for you in any way you need.

  • Sending you strength, gentle moments, and so much love.

  • I care about you deeply and I’m thinking of you every day.

  • You don’t have to go through this alone.

What to Avoid Saying in a Get Well Card

When something is serious, it can help to keep your message simple and avoid anything that might feel overwhelming.

You don’t need to:

  • explain why things happen

  • try to fix the situation

  • or find the “perfect” words

What matters most is that your message feels kind, steady, and genuine.

Longer Get Well Messages for Serious Illness

If you feel led to write a little more, a longer message can be meaningful too:

  • I wish I could take this away for you. Since I can’t, please know I’m here, thinking of you, and holding you in my heart.

  • You mean so much to me, and I’m hoping each day brings even a small moment of light and comfort.

  • I’m walking beside you in spirit—sending strength, peace, and so much love your way.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to say everything.

You don’t have to say it perfectly.

A few sincere words—written with care—can mean more than you realize.

The Story of Scatter Joyfulness Greetings™

Pull up a chair and let’s have a virtual latte together!

My morning began in the stillness of 5:00 AM, but the real magic happened around 7:00 AM. That’s when the light finally found me in my big comfy chair, peaking through the window to say hello. I settled in with one of my many "favorite" coffee cups—this floral beauty won the lottery today!—and embraced a warm, frothy hug of a latte alongside my two quiet companions.

Coffee cup with creamy foam beside glass heart objects, warm morning light, peaceful reflective moment, personal lifestyle image for Studio Journal

The red glass heart was a gift from a dear friend, and just recently, this tiny, luminous blue one arrived to keep her company. Watching the dawn light begin to reflect through the glass got me to reflecting, too—about all kinds of things from my creative past. I realize that I see the world in my favorite way: through a lens of curiosity, whimsy, gratitude, and personal faith. These hearts remind me that the real treasure is the weight of the friendships they represent. To my many friends: I appreciate and love you.

100 Floppy Disks in Paris: A Digital Pioneer’s Journey

It made me smile this morning, thinking about how far this creative journey has taken me. I was a "digital pioneer" before it was cool! I remember traveling to Europe in the Sony Mavica days, literally carrying 100 floppy disks and a stash of batteries in my backpack. There were no security lines to worry about back then—I just carried a litany of plastic disks and supplies through the streets of Paris to capture whatever inspired me. (Which was everything!) Those images are now stored on CDs... remember those?

I can still hear the humming of that camera etching Parisian moments onto magnetic disks. It was clunky and slow, but it was the start of a 30-year love affair with capturing emotion. While I recently sold my high-end Canon gear to fully fund this Scatter Joyfulness mission, that same "backpack full of disks" spirit is sitting right here in my heart to this day. Hello, World! ❣️

The Scatter Joyfulness Greetings™ site officially launched this week! I am in the absolute happiest season of my life, and I anticipate my enthusiasm to meet and make new friends will only grow.

If you're wondering if these words are me or AI—the answer is "Yes!" To know me personally is to know I’m a bubbly, enthusiastic sharer with a permanent smile and a gift for gab. I tend to think in whimsy and write in excited circles—sometimes with no rhyme or reason to anyone other than me!

I’m discovering that, for me, AI is a gift. It "reels me in" and helps me find straighter, calmer paths to the hearts of others so my enthusiasm doesn't get lost in the clouds. This journaling space is a super great outlet for that "uber-enthusiastic" girl inside me. To those who know me: thank you for always putting up with my "gift of gab!"

A New Way to Give: Collectible Micro Art Greeting Card Gifts

Welcome to a brand new category of giving. I’ve often struggled to call what I do a "greeting card," because, in my heart, it’s much more an art category than a card category.

These are Collectible Micro Art Greeting Card Gifts.

Think of them as tiny, frameable masterpieces designed to spark a soul-to-soul connection. They aren't meant to be tossed in a bin after a birthday; they are meant to be kept on a desk, tucked into a favorite book as a tassel bookmark, or placed in a 5x5 frame to brighten a corner of your home. By numbering each piece in a tiny edition of only 12, I’m ensuring that what you hold in your hand is a rare, artisanal treasure. It’s a "warm hug" that lasts long after the envelope is opened.

A Digital Seed: Sharing the Light

Before I let you go back to your day, I want to leave you with a little "Digital Seed."

In this season of my life, I truly feel like a vessel. My greatest honor is putting my heart and soul into these designs so that they can become a bridge for your heart to reach someone else. It’s all about that soul-to-soul connection—the kind that reminds us we aren’t alone and that we are deeply loved. It’s not about me; it’s about the connection I get to help you create.

Inspired by the yellow daffodils nodding in our direction as Spring arrives, I’ve created a digital sticker of the (true fact!) March birth flower. Think of this as a gift from my soul to yours and beyond.

You’re invited to help me Scatter Joyfulness today:

  • Save this image to your phone.

  • Text it to a friend who needs a "warm hug."

  • Share it to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

A small digital “seed of joy” — a daffodil sticker created for the Scatter Joyfulness community to share kindness and brighten someone’s day.

Let’s see how much light we can scatter together!

Yours In Scattering Joyfulness,

Joy
